About Me
A qualified teacher by profession, I have also worked as a news writer/translator/editor for Botswana's state radio station as well as written and proofread for a couple of reputable publications in Botswana. Since 2013, I have worked remotely offering clients (including indie authors) all over the world remote translation/proofreading/editing services.
I love reading, clothes shopping, watching documentaries, travelling and meeting people from all over the world and different cultures. I enjoy music immensely and have an eclectic taste in music. I also have a fascination for languages - I took French as a minor at university and worked as an au pair in Italy in 2000.
Me as a Teacher
I am a qualified English as a Second Language teacher (PGDE) and have a BA Humanities degree (English major). I love teaching and enjoy interacting with people of varying ages from all walks of life. I have taught both English Language and Business English to people of varying ages.
I currently offer private lessons to students who need remedial English lessons. These are usually more conversational than strictly academic. The people I have taught range from the very young to adults.
CHILDREN
I can only take a small number of very young learners at a time. Right now, I'm comfortable with the four I already have and won't be accepting any new young learner until I part ways with the current ways. But please feel free to send me an enquiry before booking a trial lesson for children.
My Lessons & Teaching Style
I’m approachable, patient and friendly but equally as passionate and results-driven. My lessons are student-led in the sense that I work with my students to determine the areas they want to work on. Once we know this, I set about finding the best ways through which to help them acquire their goals.
I feel strongly that my teaching experience and the fact that I’m a qualified English as a Second language teacher (PGDE) and hold a BA Humanities degree in English Linguistics hold me in good stead. From previously learning Italian and French, I also understand the challenges of learning a foreign language. I must hasten to stress I don’t speak either language fluently!
Whether you need help with reading, writing or speaking, I’m confident I can help you reach those goals.

Besides English Grammar and Conversational English, I'm happy to help students with their writing skills. For instance, if you need help correcting errors in written text, I'm all too happy to help you with that. If you wish to improve your reading skills, I'm willing to help. I also hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management and Level 2 and 3 NVQ in Customer Service. While living in the UK, I worked in customer service for over 10 years. For those who want mentoring and guiding in customer service delivery, I'm all too happy to do this. So please go ahead and contact me so we can discuss your specific needs.
*** PLEASE NOTE: If you are a parent enquiring for your children, can I please ask that you give me the heads up before the trial lesson, indicating the children's ages? I generally teach adults, so this is essential as it allows me to prepare age-appropriate questions AND ensures I'm not blindsided***
*** PLEASE note: I DO NOT speak any Spanish whatsoever and regrettably cannot work with students who are looking to start learning English from scratch. At the very least, I can work with Intermediate English learners from Level B1***

Te ofrezco:
✅Práctica de todas las habilidades (listening, reading, grammar, etc.) con énfasis en conversación. Mi objetivo es que realmente puedas expresarte en cualquier situación comunicativa que se te presente.
✅Clases adaptadas a tus necesidades, ya sea que necesites mejorar tu inglés general, de negocios, o para algún fin específico (viajes, mudanza a otro país, etc.).
✅Explicaciones sobre las diferencias entre el inglés y el español: Conozco muy bien las dificultades de los alumnos hispanohablantes, por lo que no sólo corregiré tus errores, sino que te ayudaré a identificar las diferencias entre los dos idiomas, con el fin de que puedas expresarte con naturalidad en inglés.
✅Feedback personalizado: al final de la clase repasamos todos los errores que cometiste al hablar, con el fin de que puedas enfocarte en los temas que te resultan más difíciles. También escribiré las correcciones en un Google Doc, y así podrás evaluar tu progreso al final de cada sesión.
✅Tarea para fijar lo aprendido. Cuento con mucho material extra para que sigas aprendiendo después de la clase (ejercicios de gramática, listening, vocabulario, etc.) .
En cuanto a mi experiencia, soy traductora de inglés-español y enseño idiomas hace casi 15 años.Me encanta ayudar a mis alumnos a conversar y a expresarse con fluidez en un idioma extranjero.
Con el fin de que puedas lograr tus metas, te tomaré un examen de nivel oral durante la primera clase, y luego diseñaré un plan de aprendizaje efectivo que se adapte a tus objetivos y que te permita mejorar tu fluidez y confianza al hablar.
Durante las clases completaremos ejercicios de gramática y lectura, pero más que nada realizaremos muchas actividades orales, con el fin de que te sientas mejor preparado para comunicarte en distintas situaciones (viajes, reuniones, etc.).
Mis clases son relajadas y divertidas, pero siempre me voy a asegurar de que aprendas algo todas las veces que nos encontremos.

Hello! I'm Rt. I'm a certified ESL tutor and mentor with 5+ years experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels on both online and in-class setups. I also hold the International Baccalaureate (IB) Bilingual Diploma, having covered English Higher Level (HL) as part of the course content. Among others, my teaching focus areas include English for business, conversation, culture, grammar and travel purposes. I am therefore the perfect help for learners interested in picking up reading, listening, writing and spoken English skills, whilst building the necessary confidence to produce these skills in real-world situations.
I provide a lot more than an English language tutoring service for my students; my approach to teaching is underpinned by a student-centered classroom management philosophy which caters to personal, cultural and situational nuances to create safe, fun and engaging lessons that foster deep and meaningful relations between my students and me. I encourage and promote learners’ active participation and open communication during lessons, according to need.
Furthermore, I have experience teaching learners with varying special needs such as sight impairment and partial deafness; this has enabled me to develop diverse teaching strategies that cater to different levels of learning abilities and preferences among students through emphasis on use of tactile, auditory, role-playing and various visual aids in preparing for lessons.
Finally, using both implicit and explicit continual assessment during lessons and for homework – whilst putting in place appropriate remedial measures upon shortfall – has proved a crucial component of my quality-assured teaching style.
