I am a compassionate and enthusiastic tutor for English Language and Literature/Literature.
I have 14 years teaching experience in high schools in England and Thailand. I have taught the IB curriculum for seven years, and been an IB Examiner for the Individual Oral for three years, and exam paper 2 for one year. I hold a BA in English Literature and Theatre Studies from Royal Holloway University of London, and I am a qualified trauma-informed teacher from Trauma Informed Schools UK. I completed teacher training with the Teach First programme, and hold a PGCE with distinction from Canterbury Christchurch University.
I have taught students from all over the world, from many different cultures and social and family backgrounds. I prides myself on establishing respectful and empathetic relationships with my students and their families. I am committed to providing compassionate support and high expectations for my students.
My tutoring style is based on collaboration and interactive learning. Once a student's needs are established, a range of activities, scaffolds, exemplars and exam skills can be tailored to practice the skills that need to be developed. Student voice is essential in this process: there will be a lot of discussion and reflection to clarify which activities are most effective for the student to develop confidence, skills and achieve their targets. My examiner experience allows me to tailor this approach to make clear what skills need to be shown to access top grades, or show clear and meaningful understanding of the exam tasks.
This method has proved successful for dozens of students year after year, allowing them to find new joy in their learning, confidence in their writing and success in their exams.
Beyond teaching, I love to spend my time hiking with my family, reading, playing soccer and geeking out painting and playing Warhammer or Dungeons and Dragons.
I love that tutoring allows students to develop their confidence and gain new skills. I am thrilled when I can talk about character insights and learn new depths about literature with students.
I am looking forward to connecting with new students, and helping them to develop their skillset and achieve their goals!
