Teaching English has been an incredibly enriching experience for me that I hope to continue to grow as a teacher. I began my English teaching career as an online tutor. From there, I began to teach English in a public school setting to mostly primary level students. I had many wonderful experiences there including the opportunity to work with a child that spoke no English. I was able to build her confidence and see her excitement for learning increase. Then, I began to work with secondary level students. My students at the secondary level were a pleasure to teach as well. They learned how to debate and use critical thinking skills. During the pandemic, I taught online more. My clients have been from all over the world, and I have acquired so much knowledge of international culture. I taught my adult students invaluable skills such as how to interview, speak more clearly, how to enjoy novels, etc. My teaching philosophy can be summed up by using a Chinese proverb - “Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.” Not only do I want my students to learn, but I also want to inspire them to seek knowledge on their own and be the captain of their language learning journey.
