Good day. I teach English mostly with set course materials and with discussion where needed. I have found that such text books often have items that need explanation as they presume the student understands the British way of life. This is often not real for those learning the language. I advise my students to use a dictionary as opposed to just a translation. Many English words have multiple meanings and the translation may not be correct. To really know any language you must really understand the words. Grammar is important but I don't emphasise this as I encourage my students to chat informally. I feel that general conversation is the best way to learn.

Me llamo Andrea, desde 2017 soy profesora de español en la universidad de Virginia Occidental (WVU), en Estados Unidos, donde también estoy cursando un máster en lingüística española e inglesa. Antes de irme a Estados Unidos, estuve trabajando en un colegio y en una academia enseñando inglés durante curso académico 2016-2017, año durante el cual también preparé exámenes de Cambridge y de Trinity. Además, he trabajado en campamentos de inmersión lingüística de inglés durante tres veranos seguidos (2015, 2016 y 2017). Me encanta enseñar idiomas, aunque también puedo ayudar con otras asignaturas. Creo que, para aprender un idioma (y también en general), es necesario disfrutar del proceso, por lo que me gusta utilizar diferentes metodologías que ayuden al alumno en su aprendizaje. Un método que utilizo mucho es la música, pues nos acompaña allá donde vayamos, o vídeos que motiven al aprendizaje. También me puedo basar en los libros de clase que necesiten los alumnos para llegar al nivel requerido. Estoy abierta a probar nuevas metodologías conforme vayamos trabajando para intentar no hacer el proceso monótono. Me centro en todas las habilidades del idioma e intento equilibrarlas en el aprendizaje.
