Hello my name is Tito and I am from Upstate New York though I have lived the past 15 years in-between California and England.
I have settled down for the moment in Bogota, Colombia which is the capital of the country. Before this I was traveling for seven months through Spain, Italy, France, Romania, Ireland, Mexico until I reached Colombia (Then I decided I was a bit tired!)
I have four years experience teaching English to refugees and asylum seekers which I found very fun and fulfilling. I spent a lot of time teaching them through games and exercises to help them learn the survival English they needed to live within British society. Most of our learning was done through conversation and I would teach them grammar as they went along.
I also was a activity leader in a English language school (CES Leeds) where I lead activities and tours so the students could have a English language immersion in Britain. This job taught me the importance of immersing yourself in the language , which I found the students would learn the language a lot quicker that way.
I have many years experience doing life coaching sessions for adults, as well as teaching astrology classes. I have found this has given me more of a comprehension of teaching as well as motiving and inspiring students to be their best.
I have a TEFL certification which means I can teach English as a foreign language. My method of teaching English is more through conversation. Included in the classes will of course be all the foundational grammar, tenses, sentence structure, listening, writing, reading, games and activities and testing of students understanding.
Yet the focus will be conversation. I have found that many students will take years of a language in school, be able to perhaps to read, understand grammar and some of the language yet when it comes to speaking they struggle.
I have found the secret to the most successful language learners was this: They started speaking immediately and made lots of mistakes.
We learn through experience, not just from studying but applying what we learn.
It is through speaking that you begin to understand how the language works and for most, the exciting part of the language is "having a conversation."
It does not matter if my students are slow learners or have a different way of learning. I will adapt to their learning style and I am a patient person.
Since then I have guided many English learners into improving their level. I have seen people go from barely being able to make a sentence to speaking confidently and quite quickly in three to four months time.
I will have homework for my students as well, yet I will make the activities they do suited around their interests.
I looking forward to have you in my class!
See you soon.
