I have been working as freelance musician for the past 20 years and have the experience necessary to pass on my skills, knowledge and musicianship to keen young saxophone players. In the two decades that I have been teaching woodwind instruments, particularly saxophone and clarinet, I have honed my teaching method to quickly identify problems, provide simple solutions and strategies to make good progress. A number of my students have gone on to study music at the country's leading music colleges and universities. Several others have received Grade 8 distinctions and I am familiar with preparing pupils for examinations and performances and what is required. My enthusiasm for music-making helps me to encourage and inspire my students, and accompanying them at the piano whenever possible in lessons also provides context and stimulation for them. I was classically trained on saxophone, but also have a great deal of experience in jazz and popular music styles. I play in two ensembles, a saxophone quartet, Syzygy and a new music ensemble, Decibel. These, along with many other freelance performances (particularly with Pierre Boulez and the Ensemble Intercontemporain) have given me a wealth of experience over the years that I love to pass on to others.
