Hello! I am Mary Ndung’u, an English teacher with vast experience in teaching English to learners who speak English as a second language. I am a graduate of Mount Kenya University in Kenya and began teaching IGCSE Edexcel since 2016. My online classes are based on the student's goals and I also ensure that I go a mile extra to ensure that they have more than they needed. One of the feedbacks from learners who have successfully attended my classes is that the classes were incredibly engaging and fun.
I began my career as a freelance teacher doing tuitions around several homes in Nairobi, Kenya. I then joined California secondary school Eastleigh as a part-time teacher in 2018 and eventually became a full-time teacher. My time at the school stabilized the language department. I was the head of languages and the debate club captain. We took part in several debating contests. My efforts paid off as California secondary made it to second runners-up, Nairobi county in 2020.
The emergence of COVID-19 saw schools close down and with that, my online journey began. I am currently the founder and Principal of Growing Minds online. My students come mainly from the USA, UK, Turkey, and Somalia. By teaching internationally my desire came true. I have assisted students realize that there is always a spark of curiosity when they learn a new language, and it seems like a victory when they can finally communicate with someone in their native tongue. I established that there is always a desire to learn about different cultures and to broaden our minds behind the study of language.
As part of my instruction, I've created a curriculum that aims to watch and observe the students in order to determine whether they can recognize places for improvement. Some of the assessment topics include: establishing English language learners' competency levels, determining which specific classes ELLs are struggling in, and determining what professional development is required to support ELLs.The opinions of my students are quite significant, particularly in light of the importance of both their learning and their confidence in their ability to understand what is being taught.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
