Tristan
I am a graduate of the University of Oxford with extensive experience in both instrumental and academic tutoring. As well as topping my class with a thesis on populist music of the USSR and Japan, I passed my composition and orchestration classes with distinction. I now work as a professional composer and a freelance arranger and orchestrator for US-based clients.
COMPOSITION
I am able to teach composition in genres ranging from classical and screen scoring to jazz and wind concert band, as well as music production in a variety of genres. If you can already compose and are looking to improve your orchestration skills I would be very happy to help. Everyone can compose, so if you have the desire, don’t be intimidated and get in touch!
PIANO
I started learning the piano aged four and completed ABRSM grade 8 at the age of twelve. After being awarded a place at Oxford, I received a scholarship for instrumental performance and subsequently piano tuition from Victor Sangiorgio and Anna Crookes. If you are just starting out, or are looking to improve, or are an adult just wishing to indulge or widen your musical interests, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
SINGING
I am a trained Oxford University choral scholar (bass), with my choir's album, Dawn of Grace, receiving BBC Music Magazine's 2022 Christmas Choice Award.
If you are looking to improve your foundation as a singer for choral performance or other genres, please get in touch.
MUSIC THEORY
If you are preparing for AP/A-level music or need help with university classes, please get in touch. I passed my university classes on composition, technique and orchestration with first-class marks, and use concrete examples to make theory a lot easier to digest and understand. If you are starting out, or have hit a musical bump in the road that you need help with, just get in touch and I’ll be happy to help.
