Hello, my name is Vanessa Dessi....
I am a 24-year-old Italian-Irish university student. I live in Italy most of the year, except for the summer holidays when I always go to Ireland to visit my family.
I like reconnecting with my Irish roots, but in general I have always been very passionate about languages and cultures. It is no coincidence that I graduated from the Liceo Linguistico Carlo Porta in Erba (CO), where I had the opportunity to study English, Spanish and German. I also obtained a C1 certification (First Certificate in English) during my high school years.
Once I finished high school, I decided I wanted to expand my knowledge in the field of communication, while continuing to focus on different cultures (particularly English and Arabic). I therefore obtained a three-year degree in Intercultural Communication at the University of Milan-Bicocca with a grade of 109/110.
I am currently about to graduate in Linguistic Sciences for International Relations (LRSI) at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan. Here, I was able to continue my passion for English language and culture, but also return to studying Spanish. I chose to study LSRI because I wanted to give myself the opportunity to also analyse languages from another point of view, such as political science.
In this way, I have a broader view of languages and cultures, looking at them from a more socio-cultural to a more political-economic perspective.
During my academic career, I developed a strong interest in teaching, both children and adults. I have mainly taught in English, but have also taught German at times. In general, I love spending time with children, which is why I currently help with homework and also babysit.
When I teach, I never forget to take my students' requests and needs into account. In fact, I always structure my lessons in advance and share my thoughts and intentions with my students, so that I am always aware of what they also think of the lesson (e.g.: the content and the way it is conveyed, the pace of the lesson, etc.). At the end of the lesson, I usually leave some exercises on the topic addressed, but they are never compulsory: I always like to think of these exercises as a tool to review and strengthen one's language skills.
I can guarantee high-quality lessons by combining my passion for languages and teaching with my personal work ethic.
I hope to hear from you very soon!
Vanessa
