9 years' experience helping students tackle the most despised subject: math.

My offerings include: math (elementary arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra 1&2, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, & calculus); science (biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy & physiology ); English (literature, grammar, composition); and computer science (C/C++, Python, JavaScript, SQL, algorithm analysis). I can also provide tutoring for a selection of AP classes, SAT/ACT preparation, and college admission essay writing. I primarily tutor high school students, but I have also worked with middle and elementary schoolers.
I am particularly passionate about math, which is many students' most hated subject. Math is a language; it has its own vocabulary, syntax, grammar, and semantics. As a tutor, it is my job to translate the language of math into my students' "learning language." Some like visual learning—pictures and graphs. Others prefer example-based lessons that relate to a "real life" experience, or perhaps tie in to a concept from another class. Sometimes students benefit from thinking aloud. Certain students want time to work through a new problem on their own before I give the lesson. My favorite part of tutoring is figuring out my students' learning language. It is incredibly rewarding for both of us. I can’t promise to turn a math-hater into a math-lover, but I can promise to make math more accessible and help my students succeed in class.
