Biography:
Marino Garcimartín is a jazz saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist from Madrid, with extensive experience both in live music and teaching.
His musical education began at the Tres Cantos Music School (EMM), where he studied saxophone with Álvaro Pérez, harmony and ensemble with Juan Miguel Juanilla, complementary piano with Federico Lechner, and flute with Alfredo García. He continued his studies at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Navarra with professors such as Mikel Andueza and Alberto Arteta, before moving to Barcelona, where he studied with Jon Robles, Gorka Benítez, Víctor de Diego, Gabriel Amargant, Marc Miralta, David Xirgu, Giulia Valle, and Sergi Vergés, among others.
During his time in Barcelona, he participated in numerous projects such as the Supersax Project, Emilio Remesal ER Project, and Bombo Caníbal, in addition to recording his first album, Compañeros de Aventuras (Fresh Sound New Talent 2018), a project co-led by Aragonese pianist Alejandro Esperanza. He is currently based in Madrid, where he has collaborated with various groups in the local jazz scene such as the Bob Sands Big Band, AP Big Band, CMQ Big Band, La Resistencia, and the Norman Hogue group. Outside the jazz scene, he worked for two consecutive seasons in the musical West Side Story, both at the Teatro Calderón and on tour throughout Spain. Later, he played for a season in the musical Singin' in the Rain.
Alongside his career as a live performer, he has worked as a studio musician and has been dedicated to teaching, with a decade of experience teaching saxophone, clarinet, flute, music theory, modern harmony, and improvisation.
