In fact, my last book, Our Global Lingua Franca, was all about my experiences teaching English around the world and what I consider to be major problems with the way we teach English as a foreign language.
As a result of seeing all these problems with the way we get foreign learners to a competent level of English around the world, I've developed my own English teaching methodology that revolves around getting people immersed in interesting, useful, unusual discussions on things they care about. I often focus on the things related to philosophy, psychology, personal development, life coaching, and more. What matters is that it challenges you to start thinking in English in ways you probably don’t have the opportunity to, even if you're already using English in your daily life.
I typically like to work with people who have already reached a conversationally fluent level but struggle to go from intermediate or advanced to truly native-like in English. They still struggle with all these tiny things that somehow elude them, such as fossilized mistakes that they've been making the whole time they have been speaking English, pronunciation, or advanced grammatical constructions.
As I am an author and book publisher, I can help you tailor your English writing too.
There are many directions we can take your lessons if you want work with me. I look forward to seeing you in a trial lesson.
I have more than ten years of teaching experience in several countries around the world, including East Asia, Eastern Europe, and South America. I am TEFL certified and incredibly well-read on linguistics research pertaining to second language acquisition. The way we think and communicate is my passion. I like to work with students who are at an intermediate or advanced level of English and want to truly master the language but feel frustrated that few teachers can help them excel further.
I am not shy about diving deep into the realms of philosophical discussions, starting engaging debates, asking insightful questions, and fostering critical thinking and active participation. My goal is to provide a stimulating environment where my students can sharpen their language skills while exploring topics they care about.
I know that mastering English goes beyond memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules—it involves understanding cultural nuances, expressing original ideas eloquently, and engaging in thought-provoking conversations that books and courses never prepared you for.
Beyond general conversation skills, we will cover specific subjects you find most interesting or useful. I tailor the content of our conversations to ability, age, and learning preferences. I will address all aspects of pronunciation, writing, grammar, fossilized bad habits, and oft-ignored cultural nuances to communication to help you achieve near-native English fluency.
