Katie G.
Hello! I am Katie Greene , singing teacher. Since 2014, I have been teaching singing and music to children aged between 6 and 12 years. I have taught children to sing, perform and play musical instruments. I always encourage the children to have confidence in their vocal and musical ability. I have taught children vocal scales and exercises but most importantly I encourage them to fully express themselves in the joy of singing and music. I have an honest and open approach to teaching and I focus on the children’s needs and I teach them the necessary skills to achieve their musical goals. I have also extensive experience of teaching guitar and ukulele. The children learn the basic fundamentals of music theory depending on their age and experience. I began teaching while I was still attending school so I was able to utilise my knowledge gained in my weekly classes and impart this knowledge to the children.
As part of my musical journey, I entered a number of singing and musical competitions. These experiences taught me the importance of performative skills and the value of self-confidence when performing on stage. I was then able to teach the children the necessary skills to find their confidence when singing or playing music. At school, I was the Student Leader of the Music and Performance Society, where I also helped other students to expand their musical and vocal abilities. I also performed regularly in school productions both as a solo singer and as part of a group. I have performed in many concerts in Ireland and have been featured on a number of TV and social media productions. In 2019, I was hired as a professional singer with Secret Escapes Ireland where I performed in a local castle for visiting tourists. I have regularly performed at the local traditional and contemporary music festivals.
I sing in a variety of styles, including jazz, folk, R&B and contemporary and therefore, I can teach a diversity of vocal and musical styles.
I come from a very musical family and from a young age, I was exposed to many genres of music. I also learned a traditional Irish style of singing called “Seanos”. This is a highly ornamented and melodic style of solo singing. This free-style of singing can be vocally challenging and requires an understanding of tempo, rhythm and accurate tuning abilities. These are all skills that I can teach to my students.
In 2022, I successfully attained an QQI Level 5 in Musical Performance in Galway Community College – Further Education. The programme modules covered the creative music performance with a broad knowledge base on the music industry, composition and theory skills. As part of course, I collaborated with other students and performed regularly in live music venues in Galway City.
I am passionate about singing and music and believe it to be core to my wellbeing. I enjoy teaching very much and I have also just completed TEFL Course. Through my previous teaching experience, I have learned many skills on how best to communicate with the students to bring out their musical talent. I am naturally patient and empathetic with students and I know that I can teach children the necessary musical skills to sing and play music to the best of their ability.
